- For the loners... People from Anchor Bay Yachting
Association and from Detroit Regional Yacht-Racing Association have started a
Sailing Singles organization. It is a place where single men and women can meet,
learn to sail, and share their love of sailing. They have been around for over a
year now, but I thought this might be new for some people (as it was for me!), and I find
it a very great idea. You can find them on the net:

or give them a call:

He explains and offers help on such thigs as: heat cramps, heat
exhaustion, and heat stroke. While for many of us the heat season is almost over (in
the north), it is a very valuable advise for all - exiting or entering the joys of hot
summer.

- There is a new skiff - the 29-er - that made its North American debute at the CORK '98.
There are only four 29-ers in the world: one in England, one in Australia and two
in Canada. It has been designed by Ian Bruce, who says that this is a very fast
boat, and that it's a "younger brother to the 49-er". He also believes
that it should be sailed by someone below 19 years of age (due to weight issues).
This boat is 4.3 meters long (14.3 feet), 1.64 meters wide (5.5 feet), and while fully
rigged it weighs 80 kg. (176 pounds). Main and jib total 12.5 square meters, and the
spinnaker is 15 square meters.
