- Sony Playstation is a newest 105' catamaran, designed by Gino Morrelli and Pete
Melvin. It is an extremely fast boat, able to sail at more than 35 knots. The
builders state, that it's capable of circling the globe in 60 days (in optimal conditions,
that is...). It has a 148' carbon-fiber mast, carbon-fiber hulls with aluminum
honeycomb cores, and 11,631 square feet of sail area (downwind). Apparently the boat
was built to break records: the first attempt will be in 2001 when it enters a non-stop
around the world marathon.

- Feb. 24 - 28: Laser Midwinters East regatta will take place in St.
Petersburg YC, Florida, USA. For more information on this event contact

- Feb. 27: Winter Shanties Fest ("Zimowe Szantowanie") will
take place in Place Polonaise in Grimsby, Ontario, Canada. It's
organized by the Polish-Canadian Yacht Club "Zawisza Czarny",
and although it will be mainly polish-speaking event, everyone is welcome. It's
free, but seating will be limited, so come in early. It starts at 6:30 and promises

- With the rescue of Isabelle Autissier came so much controversy, that this race (Around Alone) has lost the whole racing spirit for a
few days. Now it's back to normal, with only 12 sailors left in the race...
