HISTORY IN PROGRESS

January 24 - 30

  • Jan. 30 - Feb. 2: La Source Grenada Sailing Festival is once again on the go in St. George's on Grenada (Caribbean Islands).   This regatta is a truly unique one, because of its atmosphere. Sailors are having fun, but can also compete excellently.  If you're planning on being in the vicinity - I'd advise you to go there and see this festival, because it might be a very different experience from all other regattas.  For more info call (473) 440-4809, or email gsail@caribsurf.com.  For more about the regatta visit http://www.yachtingnet.com/destinations/primary-colors/

  • Jan. 30 - Feb. 7: Chesapeake Bay Boat Show is going to take place in the Baltimore Convention Centre, in Baltimore, MD, USA.   You can contact Dan Rea at (212) 984-7018 for more information, or visit http://www.boatshows.com/Chesapeake99/Fact.html.
  • An update on Around Alone:  with a deadline for registration for the third leg of the race on January 30, five sailors are still out at sea: Saito, Petersen, Hunter, Konioukhov, and Davie.  It is a very tight squeeze for most of them, and it's rather certain, that at least one of them will not make it.  Konioukhov, in addition to this situation, still doesn't know whether he won't be disqualified from the leg 2 for missing a waypoint.  He had his reasons, and now it'll be up to the committee.  If you want to read more about all this, or to make your viewpoint heard, visit www.aroundalone.com.
